On 1-22-17 it rain here in Corona CA all day long which was great since we need the rain. We live in a canyon in Corona with maybe 20 houses in here if that, all on either 10 or 20 acres per house. We live on 20 acres and have a great big hill behind our house and up on top its flat land. I think the hill is like 500 ft up because we had to have cable line going up to antenna when we first moved here and we used 500 ft.
Since 2010 here in Corona we have not had hardly any rain and 2010 was the last time we got flooded in and the dirt road gave in. It was very scary since experiencing this for the first time ever. We have lived in this canyon for 15 years now and it's like 2-3 miles to the major freeway and the town of Corona. A piece of heaven except for the dirt road and all the potholes and rocks.
(coming out of cyn)
Any ways. Around 4 pm on 1-22-17, and after raining pretty hard all day, one of our neighbors called us and said they had left the canyon and were going to a motel in case road floods. Ron and I jumped in the truck because we knew from 2010 where it would be flooded and to see if it was bad or what.
I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner and just love it. We jump in and start to leave out of canyon. Across the dirt road there is a river bed that runs from the last house in the canyon, and all the way out to a paved road. It hasn't seen rain in 5-6 years to get it flowing like a river bed usually does. So you can imagine bushes and plants and weeds have grown in the bottom of the river bed. We saw 4 Christmas tree go by us in the river bed and thought, "where did those come from?"
Driving down dirt road going out of canyon we notice the riverbed is almost leveled to dirt road. I'm taking the picture from the dirt road.
As we get to the dip before the canyon opens up, we both see the water is raging across the road.
In front of one neighbors house their driveway flooded out and they had a pond in front.
We continued along the dirt road and now water was in the riverbed across on the other side of the road. Hadn't seen that in years.
Also we were having little landslides along the road in our canyon.
A lot of rain finally here in Corona in such a long time.
Water on our road and about 4 ft deep in above picture because of the dip right there.
This is behind one of our neighbors. A riverbed flows behind her backyard and she did lose some fencing.
This is coming from behind neighbors house and will go over the road and down the riverbed, pass our house and out to the paved road.
Anyways, we survived this rain storm and feel blessed that we did since so many other people up north had suffered worse.. It is Feb 7th 2017 that I am writing this and yesterday it rained most of day but nothing to where flooding occurred but the dark clouds are coming and its suppose to rain again for a day or 2.
I better get going to the store before this storm hits us..
Later
